Maids & Matrons

Ok. I have to be honest here. I have no idea what to write about today, so I decided to share my bridesmaid fashion with you.

So, my ladies will be wearing a black cocktail dress of their choice, black shoes, an orange pashmina, and I am making some super cute red shoe clips for their shoes. I'm kind of going for an uncomplicated, painless approach to bridesmaidery. After all, my bridesmaids are scattered all over the country and it would only complicate things (an possibly inspire me to elope) if I had to co-ordinate sizes, styles, ordering, and payments.

I'm hoping the red flowers/shoe clips will balance out the black and orange (i.e. halloween-esque) aesthetic of the dresses and pashminas. After all, who wants their wedding guests to start craving candy corn as you are about to walk down the aisle? Though I knew that the halloweenish color scheme could be problematic, I love the idea of red and orange being my wedding colors--so I'm going with it....candy corn cravings be damned!

Engagement Photos

Mr. L & I had an amazing engagement photo session yesterday with Brandon Gresham of Gresham Photography. What an amazing job he did! I love the images that he posted on his blog today.

We decided to get the pictures taken at the Botanical Gardens because we went on our third date there. It was a magical day on our third date and an even more magical day yesterday!

Sip & Scan

Last week, Mr. L & I had a date. At Macy’s. We attended the “Sip and Scan” event at the store, registering for all sorts of goodies. While sipping and scanning sounds appealing, in reality it is rather hard to balance a scan gun, the clipboard they give you, your purse, and a drink.

It was a really fun event. We charmed all of the vendors and even won the ‘big’ prize. They had a caterer bring in some food, a DJ spin some tunes, and let us scan the night away. It was a daunting task at first. I mean, jeez, where do you start? Mr. L & I started in bedding and worked our way to fine china.

After we got the hang of things, it was really quite nice to be planning your future together, one household item at a time. We always ended up liking the same items, which made the whole process one big confirmation statement: YOU ARE MEANT FOR ONE ANOTHER! The best part of the night was looking around at all of the other fiances there. All of the guys were miserable at best, except Mr. L. This sounds braggadocios, but I don't care...Mr. L was the cutest, most enthusiastic, most loving guy there. I am a very lucky lady.

We really found some amazing stuff (hint, hint) that I hope we receive as wedding gifts. Here are the highlights:

Boy, oh boy. I went to see Crazy Heart last night with Mr. L, my mom, and her husband. It just makes the last post so much more apropos. Alcohol is bad. Sober is good.

Great movie, by the way. Jeff Bridges & Maggie Gyllenhaal were both really amazing. I highly recommend.

On a side note, my Mom & I went wedding dress shopping and I FOUND IT--THE DRESS. I would post a picture, but Mr. L is a reader 'o mine and he can't, under any circumstances, see the gown that I will marry him in until the big day. Let me just say that it's gorgeous, wedding-y, soft and doesn't look anything like this.

Decisions, Decisions

So, its been a couple of months since Mr. L & I got engaged. (Geez, I can't believe it!) And I have managed to make a few decisions about the wedding, which is a feat considering the daunting number of choices...for everything. I'll share with you a few of the details for the big day...

• wedding date: Saturday, November 6th, 2010
• wedding party: 6 bridesmaids, 6 groomsmen

I know looking at it, that list looks rather unimpressive, but I assure you that a lot of work went into making those decisions! It's funny; I always thought I would have an easy time of making wedding choices, but it ain't easy!! I can't wait to post some pictures and future wedding updates. Stay tuned!
