7 Dream Careers

image courtesy of this wonderful designer

I was thinking the other day, if I could start my life over what would I do different? Who would I want to be? What career path would I take? I rummaged around this 'ol brain of mine and came up with a list of seven careers that I would love to have. Here's my list:

1. Illustrator/Graphic Designer: This appeals to my very visual artistic side. I can't necessarily draw, but I would love to design on my Mac all day long. I love making beautiful things and I'm quite a dreamer, so a career as designer really appeals to me.

2. Magazine Photographer: If I had the photographic chops, you can believe that I would be a pro right now, shooting all sorts of amazing things in all sorts of amazing places. I have always dreamed of capturing images like those seen in National Geographic.

3. Travel Writer: I love to write and I love to travel. Enough said.

4. College Professor: I love academia. I love to learn new things, teach, and be in an environment saturated in knowledge & curiosity. If I could pick a field, it would definitely be American Studies.

5. Missionary: I also love to help people. I think my life would be so rewarding if I had the opportunity to do this everyday. Of course, spreading the word of God is the ultimate way to help people. I'm pretty tough, so living in a hut or having to pee in a hole in the ground doesn't scare me away from this field.

6. Fiction Author: I am a sucker for really, really good fiction. I love the way that it can transport you to another place, a place that you feel you have always known. I would love to be able to communicate in this way and to be an amazing story teller.

7. Baker/Chef: I love to eat and I really love to create. I love the thought of being in a kitchen all day, creating spectacular nibblets for hungry folks. A really good meal can transport you just like a good book, so I guess making people happy with my creations makes me happy.

7 Things To Do

Mr. L & I have a super duper romantic Valentine's weekend planned. It includes spackle, paint brushes, and caulk. Oh yeah, we're redoing the master bathroom.

So here are 7 things we will be doing:

1. Using peroxide to clean the tiles on the floor
2. Cutting out old caulk
3. Priming and painting the walls and closets
4. Taking down the hideous blinds in the window
5. Painting the walls a soft off-white
6. Picking out a nice gray fabric for the shower curtain & cafe curtain for window
7. Re-caulking

I would love to post some before/after pictures to show the beautiful transition. My hopes are high, so I hope it comes out as nice as it is in my head. There is an abundant amount of yellow tile in the bathroom, so I decided to spiff things up (while integrating tile) and go for a yellow/gray/splash of red motif.

Wish us luck!

7 Things: Trends

I guess I'm getting old. I realized this when I went shopping recently. As I looked around, I realized that I hated so many of the new trends. This feeling set off alarm bells in my head...I hate them because I'm past the youthful threshold. I'm no longer part of the consumer group that drives fashion. Yikes!

After my initial concern, I decided that I don't care that I am no longer in my 20's. In fact, I am overjoyed that I am snugly in my 30's.

30's are the new 20's, right?

Anyway, here are seven trends I will not be sad to see go away.

(Quickly, let me say that these trends look great on other people, just not me. Okay, no hurt feelings, right?)

80's sunglasses. Barf.

Have you noticed all of the weird, washed out colors. What a drag, man.

Leggings are grody.

Skinny jeans and flats. Gag me.

Gladiator shoes. Aka "The Jellies of the New Millinium"

Obnoxiously adored "designer" handbags. Why?

Booties. It's a boot. It's a shoe. No, wait, it's hideous!!
